Bond Film Composer, John Barry Dies

UPDATE: NPR LOOK BACK: REMEMBERING JAMES BOND FILM COMPOSER, CLICK HERE

The Bond films are strongly identified with a signature sound created by British composer, John Barry. Barry has died of a heart attack at age 77. Along with the Bond film, Goldfinger and many other Bond films, the Oscar-winning composer also worked on the score from Born Free, Lion in Winter, Dances with Wolves, Out of Africa, Body Heat, and the Cotton Club. One of my favorite composers of modern film scores, he will be missed.

In an interview in 2008 with The Irish Times, Barry said his success “was not that difficult.”

“If you hit the right formula, if you have an instinct for music, if you apply it, if you have the good fortune to meet with certain people who teach you well … I didn’t find it all that difficult,” he said.
